is a speech-language pathologist who holds a bachelor of science and master’s degrees from Northwestern University in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Karla has gathered over 25 years of experience in private practice, pediatric hospitals, NICU/special care nurseries, and pediatric speech-language treatment centers. With expertise in speech, language, learning, and literacy, she is passionate about working with preschoolers through high school students, especially those who struggle with memory, executive functions, and oral/written expression. She is Neuro-Developmental Treatment certified and has been a clinical supervisor for numerous universities.
As a member of Boston Children’s Hospital’s autism, developmental consultation, language-auditory processing program, and feeding teams, Karla has evaluated hundreds of children presenting with speech and language disorders. She continued to serve on multi-disciplinary pediatric evaluation and treatment teams locally at Northwestern Memorial Hospital as well as with regional neuropsychologists.
Karla has always maintained a private practice, treating children and adolescents with apraxia, oral motor, feeding difficulties, social learning challenges, and language-learning disabilities. She has been featured on Dr. Brazelton’s What Every Baby Knows and has lectured locally and nationally in the areas of oral language and literacy. Karla has conducted clinical research and published papers in the areas of speech and communication skills in twins.
